Horse MEnage CONSTRUCTION

The construction of a Horse Menage requires the use of a quality bespoke geotextile fabric. Groundfabrics distribute both non-woven and woven geotextiles for this type of construction; providing separation to ensure the surface layer cannot intermix with the sub-base and assisting drainage with high levels of permeability.

We have provided many satisfied customers with our geotextile solutions. Below is an example of how simple our geotextiles are used, with many customers carrying out the work for themselves.

Rake out surface dressing to required depth.

Allow for minimum 600mm laps (we recommend 1m laps where possible). These may be thermally welded or in DIY projects our double sided tape may be employed.

Prepare sub-base and drainage where necessary prior to installing final membrane layer.

Ensure all the fabric is covered with the surface dressing.

Top layer dressing may be applied using plant, however care should be taken not to drive over exposed membrane layer.

In this particular project, Groundfabrics GFNW-TS grade (a high performance non-woven, thermally bonded polypropylene geotextile membrane) was used over the stone and drainage system with a final surface covering of woodchip at 200mm deep. Consideration was given to ensure all the laps (set at a minimum 600mm to 1m) were sealed using 50mm wide double sided tape to provide a professional finish.

Should you wish to heat seal the laps (professional installers may be required) we offer Groundfabrics GFNW-HS grade. During the manufacturing process the fabric is thermally bonded on one side only leaving exposed fibres on the other; this allows the installer to thermally ‘weld’ the two sides together ensuring a strong seamless finish by melting the exposed fibres under heat and pressure along the join. Our double sided tape can also be used to seal the laps on this grade of fabric in DIY projects.

It is important that the site is regularly maintained after use. Raking over the surface and if necessary topping up of the covering layer should be carried out to ensure the geotextile is not damaged during use.
